You may have noticed that each time the word "team" is used in relation to the Epic Dam River Challenge, it's capitalized, and preceded by a hashtag. There is a very significant reason for this. You can find this term on the flyers, pamphlets, EDRC Facebook page, all over the EDRC website, and on the T Shirts.
The #TEAM is a loose network of friends, acquaintances, activists, civilians, and active and retired military personnel from across the nation who have created a Facebook group designed to give immediate assistance to any veteran in need. This group is not officially associated with any organization. It's just a group of concerned citizens dedicated to helping a veteran who needs it, and to give immediate aid, whatever it may be.
Members of the #TEAM have been called upon to lend their immediate services to suicidal veterans, veterans stranded and homeless, veterans in need of help moving, driving to VA appointments, shopping for disabled veterans, raising flag poles at private residences, or whatever else the case may be.
When a member of the #TEAM learns of a veteran in need, wherever that veteran may be, a bulletin is posted to the Facebook group, and members in that area, or close to it, will network to get assistance to that veteran as quickly as possible. At their own expense, on their own time, and for no other reason than to give our heroes their due, without the time consuming red tape and bureaucratic hoops that national organizations often require before help is offered.
Our heroes volunteered to protect our rights, and the rights of many around the world, at great personal sacrifice, knowing full well it could cost them their lives. Many never came home. This service is the least we can do.
